Our History

The Pickensville Church of Christ started as a result of a two week’s Gospel Tent Meeting with Bro. John Henry Clay, Sr., Evangelist from Altadena, California. As a result of the meeting there were three precious souls that were added to Christ. Bro. David Seay was appointed to be the minister of the congregation by Bro. John Henry Clay, Sr. During the meeting eight members placed their membership with the Pickensville Church of Christ.

Their first worship was under the tent, it took them about one week to find a location to meet in. Their first meeting place was on Highway 86 East in Pickensville, AL. They met in a building they acquired from a local landlord. The congregation under the leadership of Bro. David Seay, Evangelist then begun a bus ministry covering the Aliceville, Carrollton and Pickensville areas. This turned out to be a very successful evangelist effort with some members remaining a part of the congregation until this day. They met at that location for two and a half years, due to their evangelist efforts and the preaching of the Gospel they outgrew that location. They were able to purchase the building located at 641 Gore Road in Pickensville, AL in the middle of 1997. They held their first worship service at their new location in June of 1997. Their membership was about 40 plus members including children.

In 2005, Bro. & Sis. Charles and Jean Harris, Jr. placed their membership with the Pickensville Church of Christ. Bro. Harris began to serve as the Associate Minister shortly thereafter. They have worked harmoniously together until this day. Through their efforts in these communities along with Annual Gospel Meetings/Revivals they were able to reach a great number of lost souls. Many of the people they encountered Obeyed the Gospel of Christ through Faith and Obedience and were added to the Kingdom of God. As a result of church growth, they had to extend the building another 40 feet to accommodate their membership.

The Pickensville Church of Christ continues to strive to follow the pattern outlined in God’s word. Romans 6:17-18. We are committed to teaching and equipping the Saints for personal growth, teachings, personal evangelism. Our goal is for each and every member to hear those wonderful words, “Well done thy good and faithful servant.”
